Thinking About Middle Ground

People always assume that if you are against illegal immigration that you are a racist, but for most people, and certainly for me, that couldn't be the farthest from the truth. I was raised in an area that had a high concentration of Hispanics due to the local mushroom farms. No white people wanted to work those farms because they were dirty horribly stinky jobs conducted mostly inside dark dank spaces for very low, certainly below minimum wage. But not only did the Hispanics take those jobs, they worked 12-14 days, often 7 days a week and many of them lived in rough barracks-like accommodations. And you never heard a complaint. They were grateful for the opportunities provided, such as they were. In fact my father's family aside, I never saw a harder working group of people, and I was raised with a great respect for hardworking people. No I'm not against Mexicans or Guatemalans or any 'ans'. I am against not knowing WHO is coming over the border and I am against MILLIONS of people jumping ahead of needy Americans who have been languishing awaiting resources including but not limited to medical access; and we certainly don't need more people living in the streets. With the War Machine sucking up well over 50% of our taxes, we simply cannot afford this, but more importantly we can't afford to have terrorists slipping into this country by disguising themselves as one of the millions who are truly seeking a better life. And finally, how can you say that we are fighting wars in other countries to protect our country from terrorism and then leave the borders wide open for those very same terrorists to cross it unchecked? We've got to get this situation under control, for all the right reasons. #Middleground #Immigration
