Because I am outspoken and say and do what's on my mind I've not been surprised over the years to feel the burn of the occasional knife in my back, but yesterday I was shocked to learn that my close friend asked me to remove the knife from her back placed there by two people whom she thought were close friends. This is one of the nicest and kindest people I have ever met so I was as taken aback
as she was. For 15 years they worked together all doing the same job which was below their paygrade. They took lunch together almost every day, my friend often buying or taking lunch in for the 3 of them and the rest of the team. They dined while sharing their thoughts and dreams and even family lives. Frequently over the last 2 years the trio discussed being promoted, actually receiving the pay for their level of expertise, to the point that my friend went to the boss several times and put her job on the line requesting that all 3 be promoted to the level commensurate with their educations and workload while the other two remained safe and quiet in the background. On Monday it all came to a head when when my friend learned that her work friends had actually been promoted to the level some time ago and kept it a secret from her. Can you imagine how devastating that betrayal was, that in all the times she mentioned it and went to bat for all of them, they let her keep living their lie and risking her career for all of them? What the fuck is wrong with people? How can you callously treat somebody with such disregard when they are nothing but good to you? She is devastated for many reasons and rightfully so. The job she devoted her life to and the friends she cared for used and abused her and her trust, and for what? What? Why do people find it impossible to be honest with others in their interactions? You may think you have a lot of friends but be careful with whom you place your heart and trust because in the end you never know people as well as you think you do. #backstabber #backstabbers #betrayal #nastypeople #workbackstabbers
