GET OFF YOUR PHONE

Writer's picture: NonPCNonPC

Last Thursday I was out for lunch when I observed a former customer/friend of my son entering the restaurant with ther 2 small children around 6-8 years old. She entered while on the phone and sat down and was still on the phone. Later I decided to stop by and say hello on the way to the washroom but I could not because she was still on the phone. Later I walked by to pay my bill and leave but she was still on the phone. Only after I paid my bill and turned to leave did I catch her end that call. As I approached the table she raised the phone again but I interrupted her to say hello. We had a little chat and I noticed the little boy had an Iphone placed on the black table, off the checkered cloth and I pointed out that he might not see it and forget it there. Mom interrupted and said, "He won't forget that. It's brand new!" My heart sank. This lunch was a perfect opportunity to have their attention and talk about their feelings but she couldn't put down the phone even for 5 minutes. Not only that, she was teaching them it's acceptable to use your phones at the dining table instead of interacting with those right in front of you. That was a difficult thing to observe. #moms #homeschooling #cellphones #phones #children #kids
