Today's Food Porn stars a childhood favorite: Rice Krispies Treats. RK Treats have been a family favorite for 80 years. First created in the Kellogg's kitchen in 1939 by Malitta Jensen and Mildred Day as a fundraiser for the Girl Scouts. the recipe caught on quickly for many reasons but mostly because RK Treats have universal appeal to all ages, and for cooks because they are fast, easy and cheap dessert to make without the use of an oven. And with only 47 calories and less than 1 gram of fat they are a great alternative to typical high cal/high fat desserts. This is also a recipe that can be taught to kids as soon as they are capable of heating up butter on the stove. The recipe is quick and easy to make, with only 3 inexpensive ingredients, and can be served almost immediately. So here it is. First line up and prep everything you need for the treats because things move really quickly. First, spray a 13x9 or 11x9 pan or glass dish. Measure out 6 cups of Rice Krispies and set aside. Take half a stick of butter which is 4 TBSP OR 1/4 cup. Cut into 4 pieces. Cut open 1 bag of marshmallows. Now that you are set, take large high pot and slowly and carefully melt the butter. When it is thoroughly melted add marshmallows, and stir and stir and stir and don't stop stirring until they are thoroughly melted and completely blended with butter. Remove from heat, add Rice Krispies and stir, stir, stir until thoroughly blended. Spray fingers and hands with cooking spray before dumping the mixture into baking dish and pressing to form into pan. Apply pressure, compressing ingredients. Cool and serve. It's that easy! #ricekrispies #ricekrispiestreats #marshmallows #foodporn #rktreats
